Set on Matapalo Beach along Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast, Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica's an all-inclusive hotel. That makes it easy for you to settle in and enjoy everything in one place, from pools and beach activities to restaurants, entertainment, and sports. And even the on-site Splash Water World. It's designed for families as well as couples, with RIU Land for children, a spa and wellness centre, a nightclub, fitness classes, and plenty of activities throughout the day.
The hotel's currently undergoing renovation and is scheduled to reopen in April 2027, so you should keep that in mind while planning your wedding.
Accommodations
The rooms at Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica are designed around comfort, with air conditioning, ceiling fans, safes, minibars, coffee makers, sofas or sofa beds, hairdryers, irons, and balconies or terraces. Room categories vary, but for wedding groups, we recommend the Connecting Junior Suite. It consists of 2 connecting rooms, giving groups a little more space while still staying close together. It features 2 twin beds, a hydromassage bathtub, a sofa or sofa bed in the lounge area, minibar, drinks dispenser, coffee maker, and balcony or terrace.
For newlyweds, we recommend the Suite Jacuzzi with Sea View. This comes with a private terrace with a whirlpool, and plenty of room to unwind after the wedding festivities. The suite has a super king size bed, and the terrace Jacuzzi overlooking the ocean is the real treat here.
Dining & Drinks
The resort has 5 restaurants, giving you and your guests plenty of choice without feeling overwhelmed. Arenal is the main restaurant, serving breakfast and dinner with hot and cold dishes, live cooking stations, vegetarian options, varied desserts, sparkling wine, and 2 themed nights each week. For dinner, Krystal offers an à la carte menu focused on meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, while Tokio serves Japanese cuisine inspired by traditional recipes. L'Anfora brings Italian food to the table, with buffet starters and desserts, lunch and snacks, plus an à la carte dinner menu. Papagayo handles breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering buffets and snacks during the day before turning into an à la carte steakhouse style restaurant for dinner.
There are also several bars around the resort. Coconut is the swim up bar, Stars and Melody offer cocktails, soft drinks, entertainment, live shows, a terrace, and a stage. Daiquiri is the lobby bar for quieter drinks, while Capuchino serves coffee, ice cream, pastries, and a continental breakfast. You and your guests can also enjoy themed parties, live music, and access to the Pacha nightclub.
Activities & Entertainment
There is plenty to keep your wedding guests busy between events. The resort has huge freshwater pools with loungers, parasols, towel service, and, in some areas, water hammocks. There are also 2 children's pools, including one with slides. And the Splash Water World has a selection of slides and attractions designed for the whole family.
Adults can join daily activities with specialised instructors, take RIU Fit fitness classes, or try kayaking and bodyboarding. There's also a beach volleyball court and a multi-purpose court. The fully equipped gym is available for guests who want to maintain their workout routine (sports shoes required). And golfers can head to the 18-hole course. Entertainment continues after dark with shows, live performances, music, and themed events. RIU Party events bring DJs, cocktails, music, dancing, refreshments, and poolside entertainment several times a week at the nearby Hotel Riu Guanacaste. The resort also offers the RIU Art programme, where you can learn different drawing techniques; there's an additional charge for art materials.
Families have plenty to do as well. RIU Land keeps younger guests entertained with painting workshops, water games, a children's pool, and a fun park with swings, all supervised through RIU's children's entertainment programme.

There's plenty to do beyond the resort, so you and your wedding guests can turn your stay into a proper Costa Rican adventure. Diamante Eco Adventure Park is a great pick for ziplining, ATV rides, horseback riding and wildlife encounters. For something more laid back, head out on a boat to explore the Pacific, snorkel, fish, or look for dolphins. Nature lovers can take a day trip to Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja for waterfalls, volcanic landscapes and hot springs.
