Yes, guests may be able to cancel their reservation and receive a refund, but it depends on the resort's cancellation policy and when the cancellation request is made.
Most guests book their trip months before the wedding, so it is completely normal to wonder what happens if plans change.
The biggest concern is whether guests will lose their money if they can no longer attend the wedding.
Many guests also worry about unexpected situations such as:
Illness or injury
Family emergencies
Work obligations
Flight disruptions
Other unforeseen circumstances
The most important factor is the resort's cancellation deadline.
When a reservation is confirmed, guests receive:
A confirmation email
Their payment schedule
Cancellation terms
Travel insurance recommendations
If the cancellation request is made before the resort's refund deadline, guests can typically cancel and receive a refund according to the resort's policies.
If the cancellation request is made after the deadline has passed, refunds are usually no longer available.
Because unexpected situations can happen, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.
Travel insurance may provide coverage for eligible cancellations, interruptions, or other covered travel issues depending on the policy purchased.
Some credit cards may also include travel cancellation protections, so it is worth checking with your card provider to see what benefits may be available.
Waiting until after the cancellation deadline to review options
Assuming exceptions will automatically be made for emergencies
Declining travel insurance without understanding the risks
Not reviewing cancellation terms before booking
If a guest can no longer travel after the cancellation deadline, we may be able to request a name change on the reservation.
This allows another traveler to potentially use the reservation instead.
However, name changes are always subject to the resort's approval and policies.
If a guest needs to cancel, they should contact their travel coordinator as soon as possible.
The sooner the request is reviewed, the more options may be available.
Guests can often cancel and receive a refund if the request is made before the resort's cancellation deadline. After that deadline, travel insurance or a possible name change may be the best available option.
